Writing Scenes

Opening the Studio

From the episode list, click Open on an episode to enter the Studio.

Scenes panel

The left panel lists all scenes in the episode. Click a scene to view its blocks. To add a new scene, click + New Scene at the bottom of the panel.

Requires scene:create permission.

Scene blocks

A scene is made up of blocks — each block is either a dialog line or an action beat.

Adding a dialog block

  1. Click + Add BlockDialog
  2. Select the character who is speaking
  3. Enter the text (the spoken line)
  4. Optionally set an emotion
  5. Set the timing (start and end seconds within the scene)
  6. Click Save

Requires scene_block:create permission.

Adding an action block

  1. Click + Add BlockAction
  2. Enter the action description
  3. Set the timing
  4. Click Save

Editing a block

Hover over any block and click the pencil icon (✏️). Edit the text, emotion, timing, or sound effects, then click Save.

Requires scene_block:edit permission.

Deleting a block

Hover over a block and click the trash icon (🗑️).

Requires scene_block:delete permission.

Ordering blocks

Blocks are displayed in order and can be dragged and dropped to reorder them. Grab the grip handle (⠿) on the left side of a block and drag it to the desired position.

Pairing blocks

A dialog block and an action block can be paired to group them as a unit (e.g. a character speaks while an action happens). To pair two adjacent blocks, hover over the first block and click the link icon (🔗). To unpair, click the unlink icon (⛓️‍💥).

Block timing

Each block has a Start and End time (in seconds within the scene). These define when the block occurs in the episode's timeline. Use the timing fields in the block editor to set precise values.

Attaching media

Files (images, videos) can be attached to blocks for reference. Hover over a block → click the paperclip icon (📎).

Requires scene_block:media:attach permission.

Change history

Every block keeps a history of changes. Click the clock icon (🕐) on a block to view and optionally revert to a previous version.

Requires scene_block:history:revert to revert.
